January and February 2018 Empties

The first round of 2018 empties has begun! I have all the items I used up in January/February 2018. And I have a few items that are hitting the garbage can because they've gone bad or one of my minions got into them again.

I love my perfume. I find a scent and I stick with it. I'm such a creature of habit. In one of my first Birchbox orders I got the sample of Hello by Harvey Prince and it has fast become a favorite. So when I had enough Birchbox points - I purchased the full-size. I just finally finished it as well as a mini sample I had laying around. I am totally keeping the full-sized packaging. It is so pretty.
A staple in my collection of products I love has been the Shea Moisture 10-in-1 shampoo. Due to budget cutting I won't be repurchasing any more. But I love how this (and the conditioner) make my hair look and feel.

The Thayer's Witch Hazel has been a staple for quite some time now. I use it in the morning after my shower and at night after I wash my face. My face has never looked better and this has been repurchased several times now and will remain a staple.

The Eva NYC Up All Night Volumizing spray again is a staple and has made it's appearance in 2017. I will continue to use and repurchase. I love the volume and the texture it gives my hair.

The Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. It keeps my makeup in place. This is the first full-size I've gone through. If I could get it on sale - I would buy again. It works well and doesn't irritate my skin!

Garnier Micellar Water works awesome. I've tried the Bobbi Brown version and this works as well if not better at a fraction of the price. I think I'll be sticking with this as it's also very budget friendly.

These were some of my favorite products.

The Pixi Eyedefine Waterline eyeliner is AMAZING. It works better than the Urban Decay one. This is so pigmented and glides on so easily it's so worth the price point. The only con to this is that before it sets if you have watery eyes - it does smudge. (I have watery eyes especially in the morning - but I love the smudgy look anyway).

I went through another deluxe sample of Hello by Harvey Prince (these were all started awhile ago - but I finally finished them up). Then we have the Urban Decay Go Naked perfume oil. I wish these were not limited edition and I need to find a cheaper alternative. This scent is so evocative of summer and fun that I love wearing it every day. (And I also had a small foil sample of it as well that was good for a days worth of loveliness).

And I had a deluxe sample of the Urban Decay Complexion primer. It was an ok primer. I think I like the other primers I have better - this didn't do a whole lot in the pore filling department and while it made my skin nice and soft - I looked really greasy when I put foundation on. I would definitely use this as a stand alone product if I come across any more samples. But to repurchase - I have other primers I like better.

Soap and Glory Flake Away - their products are just so fun. I love the "punny" names. This smelled awesome and my skin felt pretty good afterwards. I actually did go ahead and purchase the full-size. My knees are so rough that I hope with consistent use - I may finally have smooth knees.

And last but not least some items that ended up in the garbage. The Urban Decay Primer Potion was almost gone. What was left was a little chunky so I tossed it. (This was the one that was in my purse all the time so maybe the fact that it would end up in my car for periods of time didn't help but it was definitely opened over 12 months ago).

The Time Balm foundation was one of the first higher end foundations I bought. It pulled a bit yellow on me - and I did like that it didn't break me out. It's well over 2 years old and it was starting to smell a bit off so I decided to just toss it.

The next were two mascaras that I did get a decent bit of use out of but they just started going clumpy. The IT Cosmetics Superhero mascara and Benefit's They're Real. They are both good. However, I do like the wand better on the They're Real - I find that it was easier to keep the product on my lashes and not on my lid.

The Covergirl Oh, Sugar lip balm was amazing. Alas, my minion got a hold of it and it was just destroyed.

The eyeliner Mr. Write Now in Jac dried out and I couldn't salvage it so into the bin it goes.

And this one hurts...a Luxie brush - my minion chewed it so badly that it is just unusable.

But here we have it for the empties for January and February 2018.

I still have to plot what I'm doing for my project pan for 2018. I just heard of a great idea on YouTube where it's called a "Reverse Rouge" where you try and use $1k products up in a year.

Right now I'm in the middle of a giant declutter - so I will definitely be giving the products I have left much more love and would be interesting to see what I can do.

I might have been born at night, but it sure as hell wasn't last night!

I really think people think other people are stupid. Last night, I was the attempted "victim" of a internet scam. I wouldn't have fallen for it, but it is the first time someone has tried to pull one of these on me. (I'm sometimes gullible, but not that gullible). I have decided that I would like a new laptop. My current laptop is in excellent condition, but it's time for something new and shiny. Best Buy and various other electronic stores have ridiculous deals right now on laptops. I found one that is smaller and has the power I want. However, I cannot afford to buy it, unless I sell my current one. (Which makes sense, I'm not going to get caught in the credit card trap anymore!!!) So I posted my laptop on Craigslist. Had someone who was interested. And someone who wanted me to send it to their son, after paying extra for shipping. Both Chris and I thought it a bit strange, but as long as the money ended up in my PayPal account, I was indifferednt to who

My takeaways and thoughts on "Unfuck Yourself: Get out of your head and into your life"

For 2020 I am going to try and actually read more. At minimum, I would like to finish at least one book a month. Doesn't matter if it's a novel, non-fiction, self-help, or self-development for my career. I bought this book, "Unfuck Yourself: Get out of your head and into your life"  sometime in 2019 if I remember correctly. Started reading it - but I really wasn't in the right mindset in 2019 to read some of the books I did read in the self-development or self-help realm or even try and start. First half of the year was rather stressful and I felt quite sarcastic and bitter about a lot of things going on. Starting in September of 2019 - I was getting back into a better place mentally. And in December it really set in. So I picked it up again and started re-reading. (First go-round I may have gotten to page 30 if that). I totally recommend this book. I purchased the companion to it as well. This is one of the first books I actively highlighted sections in it

2018 is going to be a big year of changes...

So 2017 didn't end like I expected and 2018 is going to be an interesting year. In 2017 I filed for divorce. In 2018 it will be final and this will be the first time I will be single since I was 20 years old. In the aftermath of all that my life is drastically changing from a financial position for some time. I am required to pay both spousal and child support (even though custody is split evenly). While assessing my finances it looks like I'm going to have to buckle down substantially and declutter my life as much as possible in order to stay afloat. With that said I would like to continue writing as an outlet.  I'm decluttering almost the entirety of my makeup collection because I need the cash I can get from that during this time or today.  It will be a low buy to mostly no buy sort of year.  But I thought I could explore more project panning. Also I want to write about ways I'm making ends meet.  My instant pot is going to be my new best friend I think this year
